What is Real Ale?
We love real ale and have a passion for promoting the best local and guest ales from around the country, but what is a “real ale”?
Unlike other types of processed and artificially carbonated beer, real ale is a “living beer” that uses live yeast and is stored in casks to condition and ferment the beer until it is served.
Real ale requires careful handling and storage to produce a lively, flavoursome and naturally carbonated beer representing the centuries of brewing heritage our country has.
To spot a real ale, look for hand-pumped or “bottle conditioned” beer.
